About The Salida Area & Recreation Opportunities

Highlights

Salida, Colorado is located in South Central Colorado in the beautiful Arkansas River Valley. Simple Lodge & Hostel provides lodging for the Monarch Crest Trail, Salida Mountain Trails mountain biking system, Monarch Mountain Ski Area, and whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River. Fisherfolk love the Blue Medal trout waters coming down from the mountains. Birders delight in the plethora of species taking refuge on their migrations and taking residence in the surrounding State Wildlife Areas (SWAs). There are fifteen mountains above 14,000’ and four wilderness areas throughout Chaffee County. While there is abundant snow in the mountains, there is a year-round sunny climate in the Upper Arkansas River Valley.

Thru-Hiking & Biking

In addition to day hikes and bikes, we are a Gateway Community for the Continental Divide Trail (CDT), the Colorado Trail (CT), and the Great Divide Trail (GDT). Historically, our hostel was founded as a haven for hikers on these trails, as well as our amazing trail crews that work in the area. Fittingly, we continue that proud tradition. Our hostel is collaborating with local trail angels to help support a shuttle system to and from Monarch Pass.

Culture

We have the largest historic district in all of Colorado. What's more, we are home to Colorado's first Creative Arts District. Our town is centered around the river and there are plenty of shops, restaurants and galleries in downtown. There are two breweries, Soulcraft Brewery and Tres Litros (located just around the corner) for folks looking to experience Colorado's bustling brewery scene. The community is vibrant and one of a kind. Come stay and play!
